Diabetic Impotence

Impotence is one of the greatest unspoken fears of men suffering from diabetes. Because the subjects of diabetic impotence and erectile dysfunction are difficult to discuss, many are not aware that there is a simple and affordable non-invasive solution. As your diabetic care specialists, we are making a vacuum erection device available to you.

Diabetic impotence can be physical or psychological or a combination of the two. Sexual problems and erectile dysfunction are distressingly common in men with diabetes, so DO NOT WORRY, you are NOT ALONE. According to the British Medical Journal, impotence affects over one third of diabetic men. Despite these grim statistics for diabetic men, it should not be assumed that all impotence associated with diabetes is irreparable or irreversible.

Many men have been, or will be, concerned with the quality of their erection at some time in their life. It may be an occasional difficulty in getting or maintaining an erection; it could be an erection that is just not as firm as it once was; or it may be a consistent inability to achieve an erection. It is estimated that over 30 million men in the US have experienced at least partial erectile dysfunction (ED). You are not alone if you experience a loss of erectile function.

The probability of impotence and erectile dysfunction increases with age and with the presence of micro-vascular complications, particularly retinopathy (eye disease) and neuropathy (nerve damage). The chance of a 50 year old diabetic man being impotent is approx 50% if he has no complications, but that increases to almost 100% if he has nerve damage or poor circulation.

FACTS ABOUT IMPOTENCE

Approximately 30 million men in the United States have some degree of Erectile Dysfunction or Impotence. It is as common as the common cold only much more treatable.  All ages of men suffer from impotence, but it is most common among older men.  Approximately 38% of all men 60 years old are impotent. (1)

57% of all men over 70 are impotent. (1)

52% of men older than 40 percent have some degree of erectile dysfunction (2).

Men 65 and older with chronic disease or medical complications are much more likely to be impotent.  For example, men over age 50 with diabetes type 1 are THREE times more likely to be impotent than men without diabetes. (3)

Nearly 50% of male patients with type 2 diabetes report some level of sexual dysfunction. (4)

40% of all impotence is due to cardiovascular disease and medications. (5)

30% of all impotence is due to diabetes. (5)

Viagra did not cure impotence.  In fact, Viagra is a wonderful recreational sex drug for non impotent men but less than wonderful for men who are impotent due to a physical cause such as medications, prostate, diabetes, vascular disease, even excessive smoking.  A magic pill is unable to reverse the underlying cause, such as diabetes or respiratory problems that caused the impotence.

Viagra is not as effective in diabetic men (50%), versus other men with E.D. (78%). (6)

Viagra quit working for many patients (37%) over a period of 1 to 18 months.  (6) results indicated from a recent case study.

Only Vacuum Therapy can be used frequently enough to improve normal erections, by clearing the corpora cavernosa and penile arteries of plaque and cholesterol build up.  Vacuum exercise is now being endorsed as a Therapy to improve erections for impotent men.  Speaking of men who regularly use vacuum Therapy, Steven Leslie M.D. reports, “some patients report improved natural erections”.

A case study performed by Dr. Trapp, Wang and Mode, reported 60% of men who used a vacuum device in conjunction with Viagra reported improved rigidity and satisfaction.

Physicians now realize that there will not be a miracle cure for impotence, and that “combination therapies will increase the success rate.” (7)
